TRACK, PIN AND MACHINE

Pin diameters by machine and track design

Track pin presses are used to service steel link tracks on excavators and dozers. For Caterpillar, Hitachi, Liebherr, Komatsu and Volvo, the installed track design determines the appropriate setup.

Orientation values researched from tooling charts, converted from inches and rounded to 0.1 mm. Not OEM approval or machining dimensions. The source lists generic pin dimensions; a separate master pin size is not identified for every row. Year, serial number, replacement track and pin type may differ. Check the actual pin before selecting equipment. SEALED = sealed track; SALT = sealed, oil-lubricated track.

D4, D5, D6, D8, D9: The variant matters.

These designations identify Caterpillar dozers. Even D6H and D6N have different pin diameters in the SALT examples listed. LGP (low ground pressure), HD versions and additional pin retention such as PPR also need consideration. A machine series is not a unique track part number.

Track types and manufacturer details

Which track is on your machine?

Track pin presses are used to service steel link tracks on excavators and dozers. For Caterpillar, Hitachi, Liebherr, Komatsu and Volvo, the installed track design determines the appropriate setup.

Distinguish lubrication from the track joint

01

Dry / sealed tracks

A sealed track is not necessarily oil-lubricated. Identify the track design, pins and bushings before selecting tooling.

02

Grease-lubricated tracks · GST / GLT

Grease lubricates the pin-to-bushing joint. Komatsu uses GST and Caterpillar uses GLT. These terms do not specify a common pin size.

03

Oil-lubricated tracks · SALT

Sealed joints retain oil between pins and bushings. These undercarriages are documented on dozers, among other machines. Seals and assembly requirements must be considered.

04

Master pin joints

A special pin joins the track ends. A press-fit master pin needs matching pushing and receiving tooling; its design can differ from regular track pins.

05

Split master links

A split master link is a different joint design from a press-fit master pin. Establish whether the job is to open the track or service another track joint.

06

Endless rubber tracks

An endless rubber track does not have a removable master pin like a steel link track. No HTPP suitability is stated here for these tracks.

What helps us select your equipment

Request a check of your pin dimensions
  • Machine manufacturer, model and serial number
  • Track manufacturer and part number, if known
  • Pin diameter and length; track pitch (pin-centre spacing)
  • Track width at the pressing point, clearance and photos of the pin and joint
  • Required work: open the track, remove or install a pin

FAQ

Good questions. Clear answers.

01Will a track pin press fit Caterpillar, Hitachi, Liebherr, Komatsu or Volvo?

The brand alone is insufficient. Selection depends on the installed track, joint, pin dimensions, clearance and required force. WSD reviews the appropriate Power Team HTPP setup using your information.

02What does Master Pin Pusher mean?

A Master Pin Pusher is a press for the track master pin. Track Pin Press is another common term. The available pin operations depend on the press, tooling and track design.

03Is 100 tonnes enough for my excavator track?

Force alone does not determine suitability. Pin dimensions, frame opening, throat depth, tooling and track condition must also match. The HTPP-100 data sheet specifies tooling for pin diameters of 19.3–60.2 mm; this is not universal machine approval.
